VINYASA YOGA 101 is a 6 week course to promote the foundations of a Vinyasa Yoga practice. This is an IDEAL way to begin
yoga for new students and an AMAZING opportunity to deepen understanding for those who have an established practice!
Most classes at Dhanwantari are in the VINYASA style. Vinyasa is a Sanskrit word that describes a dynamic, flowing form of hatha
yoga. Each asana (pose) is linked together with the breath to form a continuous flow.
During the 6 weeks you will learn…
- The 14 key points to a complete, balanced vinyasa practice
- Each week will focus on a concentration: standing poses, forward bending, backbending, inversions, etc.
- The breath and how it relates to well-being.
- Yoga asanas (postures) with regards to positioning, alignment and safety.
- How YOGA relates to health and well-being of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies!

1. START SIMPLY. All our classes are drop-in. Start with a class that fits most easily in your schedule. Rearranging your life too much to fit in
your yoga practice will only increase stress and add pressure. If we don't have a class at a time that is convenient, email us and we'll see what
we can do! An ideal way to begin your practice is to participate in our VINYASA YOGA 101 COURSE. More info to the top of this page.
2. EXPLORE. If possible, explore different styles and instructors. Some styles of yoga will be more appropriate for your BODY than others.
You might feel best with a calming practice or maybe an energetic practice. You won't know until you give it a try! You may also enjoy initially
learning in a one-on-one setting, just you and the instructor. Dhanwantari's Director, Brooke, specializes in working individually to aid you in
discovering the practice that works for you!
3. YOGA SHOULDN'T HURT. It is written in the YOGA SUTRAS that postures should be comfortable and steady. If you unable to find the JOY in
your postures then it is NOT YOGA. Respect your limits and do not feel pressure to perform a posture you are uncomfortable in. There are 6
billion different expressions of each pose--find yours!
4. DON'T WORRY ABOUT THE LINGO. "What is the difference between Vinyasa, Kripalu, Hatha?" All YOGA using the physical body and on a
mat is HATHA YOGA. All the other names came later. These names are descriptions of the style of hatha yoga--usually named by or after a
guru. Don't worry about understanding the differences. Simply find the style that works for your body and that's the BEST one for you!
5. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. Let your instructor know of any health conditions or concerns that may interfere with your practice. Even if it
seems mild or 'not a big deal,' it is still important that your yoga instructor is aware so that they can assist you appropriately during the class.
6. THERE ARE NO MASTERS. Don't worry if you are a beginner. YOGA is a process, not a goal. You don't need to be able to stand on your
head or touch your toes. Many, many people are just beginning a yoga practice. If you've never tried YOGA, you are not alone. Dhanwantari is an
open, friendly place and a GREAT environment to get started!
